Applications of glass beads
Glass beads are widely used in the fields of building materials, plastics, rubber, coatings, chemistry, metallurgy, navigation and aerospace, and have irreplaceable important uses. The uniqueness of glass beads as a filler is that they are spherical and have a smooth surface. They can roll together like bearings and have good free flow. Moreover, hollow glass microspheres have some unusual characteristics, which naturally improve resin properties from different angles. They have become a relatively mature engineering material in the United States and are also widely used in the United Kingdom. The modified hollow microspheres have electrical, magnetic and other properties and can be used in fields such as microwave absorption or electromagnetic shielding to prepare functional functional materials, broadening their application scope. Since artificial glass beads consume a lot of energy, obtaining glass beads from fly ash can greatly reduce costs, so microbead fillers will have good development prospects. At present, the utilization of fly ash hollow beads in my country is still in its early stages, and both the utilization rate and utilization level need to be developed. As an emerging multi-functional material, its application prospects will become better and better.
Particle size control of glass beads
In recent years, because artificial glass beads consume a lot of energy, people have turned to obtaining hollow beads from fly ash in thermal power plants. If glass microspheres are to be widely used in more industrial fields, the main problem should be deep processing, sorting and grading of glass microspheres. The glass beads extracted from fly ash are first sorted to remove ash and impurities, and the glass beads are selected. Then classify the products into product series with consistent average particle size and narrow particle size distribution. It is worth mentioning that the economic value of glass beads extracted from fly ash is very high. The price of a meal of unclassified beads is 1,000 yuan, and after classification, it can reach 1,500-2,000 yuan. Sinking beads are more expensive. A ton of 45-10 micron sunken beads is priced at 2,000 yuan, 10-15 micron is priced at 3,000 yuan, and 5-2 micron is priced at 4,000 yuan. It can be seen that the particle size of glass beads has become the standard for product grade.
Glass microspheres have different requirements for particle size in applications in different fields. For example: when glass beads are used in rubber products, the finer the particle size, the narrower the distribution, the better the performance of the rubber product, the greater the bonding force with rubber, and the higher the reinforcing effect. Generally speaking, microbead materials with a particle size of 40-10 microns are used, which can replace CaCO₃ and talc as fillers and reinforcing agents. The use of 10-5 micron and 5-2 Winner particle size microbead materials can partially replace carbon black and silica reinforcing materials.
Laser particle size detection of glass beads
There are many ways to measure particle size. In recent years, laser particle size detection, which is most commonly used in laboratories, has become a popular particle testing instrument in the world because of its fast testing speed, good repeatability, and wide measurement range. This glass bead test uses Winner2000ZDE. First, use a little alcohol to fully soak the sample in a beaker, and then disperse it with water. After using ultrasound for 2 minutes, open the cycle test. After multiple tests and comparisons, the test results are stable.
