Why are the particle size results measured by different particle size analyzers different? Is there even a big difference?

Dec. 06, 2023

In particle size measurement, we often encounter the situation that different instruments often measure different results for the same sample. Some powder manufacturers and users often judge product quality based on their respective particle size data, resulting in various disagreements. Therefore, the inconsistency of particle size test data is a common phenomenon in current strength measurement. There are two main reasons for this phenomenon: first, particles in nature are irregular, that is, non-spherical. Since the equivalent particle diameters measured by instruments with different design principles are different, the measurement results are different; Second, the criteria for selecting particle size measurement methods are different, so the particle size values obtained will be quite different.

Therefore, it is normal for particle size instruments with different measurement principles to obtain different particle size measurement results for the same sample. If the measurements are inconsistent, it is abnormal, unless it is a standard spherical sample.
